Top 10 Home Assistant Integrations I Recommend

Integrations in Home Assistant provide additional functionalities, allowing you to connect to different devices, access various services, and enhance your smart home experience. While some integrations are specific to the devices I own, I’ve compiled a list of ten integrations that I believe most Home Assistant users will find beneficial.

1. Battery Notes

Battery Notes is an essential integration that helps me keep track of the battery levels of all my battery-powered devices. It provides notifications when a battery is running low, ensuring I never have a dead device when I need it the most. This is especially useful for maintaining my smart sensors, remotes, and other battery-operated gadgets. A cool feature is that it tells you what type of battery goes in each device (AA, AAA, CR2032 etc), so you know what kind of battery you need to have when it’s running low.

2. Google Calendar

Integrating Google Calendar with Home Assistant allows me to automate my home based on my schedule. For example, I can set up automations to turn off the lights and adjust the thermostat when I leave for work, or send me reminders for important events. It’s a great way to streamline daily routines and ensure I never miss an appointment.

3. Google Sheets

The Google Sheets integration is a powerful tool for logging data from Home Assistant. I use it to track temperature changes, energy consumption, and other metrics over time. Having this data in a Google Sheet makes it easy to analyze and visualize trends, helping me make informed decisions about my smart home setup. Most recently, I used this integration as a way to create visual graphs, so I can use them as image files to send in notifications.

4. Google Tasks

With the Google Tasks integration, I can create and manage to-do lists directly from Home Assistant. This integration is perfect for setting reminders for household chores or any other tasks. I can even automate task creation based on certain conditions, making it a seamless part of my daily routine.

5. Mobile App

The Home Assistant Mobile App is a must-have for any Home Assistant user. It provides real-time notifications, location tracking, and easy access to sensors on my phone. Most recently I used this integration to access the notifications received by the phone, to extract OTP codes sent by various providers and connect that to Paperless-ngx to remove passwords from PDF files automatically.

6. OpenAI Conversation

The OpenAI Conversation integration brings advanced natural language processing to Home Assistant. I use it to create more intuitive voice commands and automations, making my interactions with Home Assistant more conversational and user-friendly. It’s a great way to enhance the smart home experience.

7. Powercalc

Powercalc is an invaluable integration for monitoring and optimizing energy usage in my home. It estimates the power consumption of my devices and appliances, helping me identify areas where I can save energy and reduce costs. With Powercalc, I can make my home more energy-efficient and eco-friendly.

8. Pushbullet

Pushbullet is a versatile integration for sending notifications from Home Assistant to my phone, tablet, or computer. Whether it’s an alert about a security issue, a reminder, or an update on a home automation event, Pushbullet ensures I stay informed and in control of my smart home.

9. OpenWeatherMap

The OpenWeatherMap integration provides accurate and up-to-date weather information directly in Home Assistant. I use it to trigger weather-based automations, such as adjusting the thermostat when the temperature drops or closing the blinds when it gets too sunny. It’s an essential tool for creating a responsive smart home environment.

10. Illuminance

Illuminance is a handy integration for managing lighting in my home. By measuring (or estimating) the ambient light levels, I can automate lighting adjustments to ensure optimal brightness throughout the day. This integration helps create a comfortable and energy-efficient lighting setup, adapting to natural light conditions automatically.

These integrations have significantly enhanced my Home Assistant setup, providing additional functionality, improved automation, and better control over my smart home. Whether you’re a new user or a seasoned Home Assistant enthusiast, these integrations are sure to bring added value to your system.
