New Features on Google TV
Google has announced a series of exciting updates for Google TV that include the addition of a sports center, improved interaction with smart home devices, enhanced movie and TV show overviews, and a revamped channel guide. These updates are being rolled out across all Google TV devices, including the recently launched Google TV Streamer.
Enhanced Smart Home Integration
The updated Google TV features a new home panel that connects seamlessly with your smart home devices. Users can access this panel by selecting the new “Google Home” tile located in the notification shade, allowing them to manage lights, smart speakers, security cameras, and more. This update also enables notifications to pop up when someone rings the doorbell, even if you’re in the middle of watching something. Additionally, the Google Assistant voice control has been enhanced, granting users the power to operate the TV using their voice.
Create Personalized Screensavers
Another creative feature introduced is the ability to customize screensavers. Users can specify the type of landscapes they wish to see, and Google TV will utilize generative AI to produce a unique screensaver. For those who wish to showcase memories, there’s an option for a slideshow of images from Google Photos.
Sports Center Brings Everything Together
The sports page upgrade is a major highlight, where users can dive into highlights and live sporting events. As Google puts it, “The new sports page in the For You tab brings all of your sports content into one place. Quickly find live and upcoming games, catch sports commentary, browse YouTube highlights and get personalized recommendations to stay in the loop.” This could streamline the viewing experience for sports fans looking to keep track of their favorite teams.
New Channel Guide for Freeplay
Google has also enhanced the Freeplay feature, which offers a list of free TV channels. The new channel guide provides a user-friendly way to browse by genre and topic, making it easier to access free channels, including appealing additions like Heartland, The FBI Files, and ION Plus.
