Exciting Updates for iOS Users
Home Assistant announced today an updated release of the companion app for iOS. With the latest release, version 2024.9, Home Assistant has incorporated new features to align seamlessly with the upcoming iOS 18 launch. One notable addition is a revamped configuration option for the Home Assistant app on Apple Watch.
Customizable App Icons
With today’s iOS update, Apple users can enjoy enhanced home screen customization for app icons, introducing both a dark mode variant and a tinting option that allows users to choose an accent color. Home Assistant has also embraced this trend, providing users with a fresh look for their app icons.
New Features in Control Center
The revamped iOS also enhances customization capabilities for Control Center. Home Assistant has added five new controls: Assist, Toggle light, Run script, Activate scene, and Open page. These new features allow users to access Home Assistant functionalities more efficiently than ever.
Apple Watch Configuration Enhancements
For a long time, the Home Assistant Watch app could only run built-in iOS actions, but this update expands its capabilities significantly. Users can now configure their Apple Watch to display scripts, scenes, and more. After the update, you simply need to head to the companion app settings on the iOS App to access the new configuration screen.
A particularly handy feature is the Require confirmation setting, which prompts users for confirmation before executing actions—perfect for those accidental triggers.
Additional Improvements
- New sensors, including Apple Watch battery level, app version, and location permissions.
- A new Scripts home screen widget.
- Beta testing for Assist on Apple Watch.
- Multiple bug fixes, including enhancements to widget functionality and more.
