As a Home Assistant user who relies on Zigbee Home Automation (ZHA), I’ve found a selection of Zigbee devices that integrate seamlessly with ZHA and significantly enhance my smart home experience. In this post, I’ll share my top Zigbee devices, focusing on motion sensors, vibration sensors, and door sensors. These devices are tried and tested, ensuring they work flawlessly with ZHA in Home Assistant.
Requirements
Although you’re more than welcome to just read this post for general knowledge, check out my recommendations for what you need to have, in order to be able to fully use the provided information.
Motion Sensors
Motion sensors are essential for automating lighting and enhancing home security. I use these Zigbee motion sensors throughout my house to turn on lights when motion is detected after dark and to turn them off after a set period of inactivity.
Why I Recommend Them:
- Zigbee Model: Make sure to choose the Zigbee model, not the Wi-Fi version. The Zigbee model has better battery life and reliability.
- Automation: Perfect for automating lights and enhancing security.
- Reliability: These sensors have proven to be reliable in my setup.
Models that are NOT Recommended:
These models use a small button-type battery that depletes quickly, making them less practical for long-term use.
Vibration Sensors
Vibration sensors are versatile and can be used for various applications around the house. I have them installed on my irrigation valve to detect when it opens and on my washing machine and dryer to indicate when they are in use.
Why I Recommend Them:
- Battery Life: The Zigbee version has excellent battery life.
- Versatility: Great for monitoring different appliances and systems.
- Easy Integration: Easily integrates with ZHA in Home Assistant.
Door Sensors
Door sensors are crucial for home security and automation. I have these sensors on all the doors in my house. They provide alerts when doors are opened, which is especially useful when I'm away or when the air conditioning is running and a door is left open, which is a really useful alert to have.
Why I Recommend Them:
- Security: Enhances home security by alerting you when doors are opened.
- Automation: Useful for various automations, such as turning off the AC when a door is left open.
- Battery Life: Uses AAA batteries and pairs easily with Home Assistant.
Summary
These recommended Zigbee devices are essential components of my smart home setup. They offer reliability, ease of integration, and excellent battery life, making them ideal for anyone using ZHA in Home Assistant.
