Organizing Your UnRaid Apps with Folders for a Cleaner Interface

Organizing Your UnRaid Apps with Folders for a Cleaner Interface

After using UnRaid for a while, you’ll quickly discover how easy it is to install apps (Essentially Docker containers, for those familiar with the term) With this ease comes a tendency to install more and more apps, leading to a cluttered interface. In my setup, I have over 40 apps installed, and navigating through them became a chore.

Fortunately, there’s a straightforward solution: grouping apps into folders. These folders act like the ones on your computer, letting you visually categorize apps however you like. You can name the folders, add custom icons, reorder them, and organize your apps for easier access. Here’s how you it looks:

Here’s how you can do it:

Step 1: Install FolderView

To begin, head over to the Apps section in UnRaid’s menu and search for FolderView.
Once you find it, click Install to add the tool to your system.

It should look something like this:

Step 2: Create a Folder

After installing FolderView:

  1. Go to the Docker tab.
  2. At the bottom of the page, you’ll see a new button labeled Add Folder. Click it.
  3. A new window will open with various options. While there are several settings to explore, the default configurations work perfectly for most setups.
  4. Enter a name for your folder and choose an icon (details on how to set custom icons below).
  5. Scroll down to select which apps should go into the folder by checking the boxes next to them.
  6. Click Save.

That’s it! You’ll now see the folder on your Docker tab. You can rearrange folders just like individual apps by using the lock icon in the top-right corner of the screen.

Customizing Folder Icons

Want to personalize your folders with custom icons? Follow these steps:

  1. Download a PNG image from any source you prefer. I recommend pngtree.com, but there are plenty of other sites to explore.
  2. Go to this Base64 image converter. Upload your PNG file and click Show Code.
  3. Look for the line of code that starts with data:image/png;base64. This is the code you’ll need. Copy the entire line.
  4. Paste the copied code into the Icon field when creating or editing your folder.

Your folder will now display the custom icon you’ve chosen.

Summary:
Organizing your UnRaid apps with folders is a simple yet effective way to keep your Docker containers tidy and accessible. With FolderView, you can create folders, customize their icons, and arrange them as needed, turning a cluttered list into a sleek, organized interface.
